We spent 5 days on a remote island off the east coast of Phuket in Phang Nga Bay. We experienced real island living. Life is slow. There are few cars. The oceans are beautiful. And everyone is all smiles. We met 2 people who came to Koh Yao Noi on vacation from Europe.... and they just never returned home (I mean, they did go back to quit their jobs and sell their belongings, but that was it). We can definitely see why this happens.
We woke up every morning before sunrise to watch the sun come up over the ocean. It was tough getting out of bed, but we were always happy we did it.
The other awesome thing: no ass holes go to a yoga retreat. This was our expectation and this is exactly what we got. Everyone was incredibly nice and they came from a wide variety of backgrounds and experiences. We were struck by how much each person was interested in the stories of their peers. We made friends with a group of people in a very short period of time, some of whom we continue to stay in touch with today.
